Independer is the largest comparison platform in the Netherlands for insurance for private individuals and also is an underwriting agent for several insurers. That is why it was looking for a more efficient way to handle claims. At the beginning of this year, it chose CED as its partner for claims handling and a few months later also for the platform for automated claims handling: CED Connect. ‘All of this brings our customers and us a lot of convenience and certainty,’ says Roeland Westerbeek, Manager of Agents at Independer.
Independer has acquired great fame as a comparison site. It now represents almost all insurers in the Netherlands. Private individuals can go here to compare, apply for, and take out various insurance policies for cars, healthcare, homes, contents, travel, legal assistance, and liability. Westerbeek: ‘We offer products from ‘direct writers’, but also from insurers who work with intermediaries. We are the underwriting agent for a number of them. On their behalf, we accept insurance policies, send out policies, and collect premiums. We also handle policy changes and claims. For this claims handling, we were looking for a partner who could support us in this.’

Quality and flexibility decisive
CED proved to be able to scale up quickly and flexibly for the claims handling of Independer's volumes and started doing so in January 2024. Independer subsequently showed itself to be extremely satisfied with this flexibility and with the quality of the claims handling. CED Connect, the platform for the automated handling of claims, was also discussed. 'The demos were very convincing!' according to Westerbeek. 'And we did a reference check. CED Connect offers a complete 'my' environment for policyholders. There they can report their own damage and follow the progress. In addition, there is a solid mid-office process to support our claims handlers. They have to enter less manually and are guided through the process step by step.'
Next step in collaboration
The collaboration via CED Connect went live in the autumn of 2024. The platform was linked to Independer's own Anva system so that all data is available for reporting and financial settlement immediately after the claims handling. 'In any case, we handle all vehicle claims via CED Connect, which is our largest portfolio,' Westerbeek concludes. 'Our other underwriting products, such as fire and liability files, follow. I have every confidence that CED Connect will work well for our customers and handlers.'
