From start-up to Grand Old Lady

CED is 50 years young: a short retrospective

CED is 50 years young! We were founded in 1971 as a foundation for just loss assessment. Since then, we have grown into a full-service provider for insurers and self-insurers on a European scale. Scroll through our impressive timeline!

1971

Establishment of the Centrale Expertise Dienst in the Netherlands, with most Dutch insurers as shareholders. Goal: to bundle 'expertise' capacity for more efficient and effective claims handling.

1983

CED is celebrating its 12.5th anniversary. Employees donate a work of art with an image of the newly built Willemsbrug in Rotterdam. The pillars of that bridge represent the pillars of the company.

1990

CED takes over the Rotterdam expertise agency Bergweg Michels.

2000 - 2010

CED moves to Capelle aan den IJssel (the Netherlands) and from there embarks on a buy and build strategy including the acquisition of Meditel (2004, insurance inspections for preventive medical advice), EMN (2008, specialized expertise), Nomex (2008, valuation), HDS Groep (2008, valuation and inspection) and the expertise services of Nationale-Nederlanden and Delta Lloyd (2008).

2010

A major international breakthrough with the acquisition of the Interiura branch network from parent company Arag. The roots of our current cross-border claims CED CBC. Followed a year later by the takeover of two Belgian expert firms and a Spanish personal injury firm (2012). The core of the current international CED has been formed.

2013

Broadening of the services with the start of MedX Medical Advice and MedX Legal Aid, for medical and legal assistance to injury victims. Care recourse is also taken over from the Dutch insurers Univé and VGZ. In addition, MultiHerstel will start, the current CED Repair: an innovative solution for damage repair in kind.

2014

CED is renewing itself. The corporate values are launched: expert, decisive, innovative, and energetic. And 'Expert Erik' is the ambassador of these values. The international head office in Capelle is getting a 'metamorphosis'.

2014

CED, together with engineering firm Arcadis, will become a shareholder of Centrum Veilig Wonen in Groningen (northern part of the Netherlands), to settle the earthquake damage caused by the gas drilling. CVW ceased to exist in 2019, but CED remains involved in the earthquake damage. Now with the Instituut MIjnbouwschade Groningen as a client.

2015

CED has long been one of the initiators of the Dutch Insurance Cycle Tour, a unique sponsored bicycle tour in the Netherlands, together with all its relations. This initiative culminates in the official sponsorship of Team Roompot Oranje Peloton: a professional 'young talent team' that has produced great cyclists such as Pieter Weening, Johnny Hoogerland, and Dylan Groenewegen.

2015-2016

Knowledge sharing and thought leadership are becoming important selling points for CED. A series of valuable publications begins with the book OK Google glass, about the professional possibilities of the innovative 'glasses' from Google and other digital innovations. In the so-called 'Trend Reports', CED shares its analyzes of trends and developments based on 'Big Data'.

2016

More expansion. CED takes over the Dutch Emergency Center SOS International from ASR. This creates the 'value chain' of full-service services: prevention and emergency assistance, loss assessment and claims handling, recourse, and recovery in kind. With a rebranding, the three domains Property, Mobility and Vitality are clearly positioned.

2017

Fintech investor BlackFin Capital Partners becomes the new shareholder of CED. This guarantees greater independence in services and enables further international growth.

2018

Paris is the scene of the 17th CED International Conference. A good practice, taken over from Interiura, which has since grown into an important meeting place for relations from the international claims management industry.

2019

From the perspective of 'digital where possible, personal if necessary', CED is opening an 'IT hub' in the Tunisian capital Tunis, where self-developed insurtech tools are built and digital back-office support is provided.

2020

The corona pandemic is casting its shadow over the world. CED turns threats into opportunities. The development of remote expertise and inspection is accelerated and successfully rolled out. And SOS International becomes a partner of the Dutch Regional Healthcare Services in source and contact research to combat the coronavirus. At the end of the year, CED announces it will acquire the French expertise company Eurexo.

2021

Party! CED is 50 years young! And while the corona pandemic still largely determines social and economic life, the 'Grand Old Lady' is taking the next steps to become the European market leader in claims management: first follows the acquisition of the Spanish Consulting de Asesores Periciales (CAP), then the acquisition of an important Mobility player GEXA in Belgium. The next 50 years beckon.
